LAC Development Marketplace 2010 - APLICATION PROCESS


 
 Application Process

The LAC Development Marketplace 2010 opened registrations on September 2009 through a regional calling. Over 500 applications were received from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean in the first assessment phase of the competition.  The second assessment phase identified 44 finalists from across the region, from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica, México, Nicaragua and Peru. Finalists showcased their projects during the LAC Development Marketplace and Knowledge Forum in Bogota, Colombia from April 11 to 14th, 2010. Panels of judges assessed all projects and awarded 14 grants of up to USD $35,000.  We would like to thank all applicants, finalists, service providers and international & Colombian partners for your participation to make the LAC Development Marketplace a success.

The LAC Development Marketplace 2010 received several hundreds of projects throughout Latin America and the Caribbean in the first phase of the competition.  The second phase consisted in a rigorous selection process. In January we had the announcement of 44 finalists from across the region, from countries such as: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica, México, Nicaragua and Peru. 

COMPETITION TIMELINE AND KEY STEPS

  • September 2009: Call for Proposals
  • October 2009: Review of Proposals. Applications and registrations closed.
  • January 2010 : Announcement of 44 Finalists
  • January- April, 2010:
    - Finalists prepare for final interviews by judges during event
    - Finalists prepare display materials
    - Obtain travel documentation
    - Identify Capacity Building needs
  • April 11-14th, 2010: LAC Development Marketplace & Knowledge Exchange Forum in Bogota, Colombia
  • Finalists were invited to the LAC Development Marketplace & Knowledge Exchange Forum. A panel of judges assessed the projects and declared 14 winners. 

This event included the following:

  • Showcase of projects by Finalists
  • Final selection process: Interviews by Judges
  • Selection of Winners and Presentation of Awards
  • Capacity Building Session and Knowledge-Exchange
  • Networking and Open Space Opportunities
  • Working Sessions between the Finalists, Service Providers and DM Partners. 


Judging of the winning projects was carried out by the DM Sponsor agencies and included knowledgeable experts in the themes of the DM. In addition, the event included several special awards selected by DM participants and the invited audience.

 

The DM sponsored the cost for one representative from each finalist team to attend the event. Covered costs for one team member included airline ticket, transportation hotel-venue and accommodation
