Following an intense promotional campaign on TV and through major national newspapers, 104,600 wall maps have been distributed in the six largest cities in Bolivia--covering about 70 percent of Bolivia's readers.
This initiative will help strengthen the World Bank's  position as a resource on key development issues facing the country.
Working with the UNDP, 104,600 National Geographic Maps illustrating the Millennium Development Goals have been translated and customized for the local audience. Seven national newspapers were involved in this project, covering the most populated Bolivian cities.
Because of their high quality and influential reach, three of the newspapers have distributed the map free of cost to the Bank.  In addition, all Sunday Editions [which have the largest circulation] have contained a full color map, translated and adapted by Bolivian local office of the Bank.
The map customization and dissemination was funded by the Bank's Bolivian country office, UNDP funding, and support from the various media outlets.
Three of the five newspapers wanted to take part of the project financing through a media campaign for the promotion of the maps. This support was for free. There was a TV spot running for a week in the most important broadcasting enterprise in Bolivia (ATB), and a lot of publicity adds, full color and full page. By developing relationships with these media outlets, the initiative received a great deal of free publicity.
