• Economic and sector work forms the Bank’s knowledge base and provides a foundation for carrying out policy dialogue with partner countries, building countries’ analytic capacity, formulating and implementing effective lending programs, and influencing the development community. • Technical assistance (nonlending)is policy advice to support the implementation of reforms and build institutional capacity in partner countries. The Bank provides advisory assistance on documents, such as draft legislation, institutional development plans, country-level strategies, and implementation action plans; and on formulation and implementation of a policy or program. • Impact evaluation assesses change in the well-being of individuals, households, firms, or communities—change that can be attributed to a particular project, program, or policy. Impact evaluation provides feedback to help improve the design of programs and policies. As a tool for dynamic learning, impact evaluation offers policy makers a demonstrated basis for improvement of ongoing programs. Each year the WDR focuses on a specific aspect of development. Itsannex presents the World Development Indicators, a compilation of data on economic and social development in more than 120 countries. Go to World Development Reports for a synopsis of reports since 1995. • Research services cover issues of longer-term and broader concern than the immediate needs of a particular lending operation or a particular country or sector. For example the Policy Research Working Paper Series disseminates research findings to encourage the exchange of ideas about development issues. • Donor aid coordination refers to interchanges among institutions that provide development assistance to recipient countries and overall coordination of donor relationships. The activities range from dialogue with donors to joint cofinancing on joint strategic programming. They also extend to the preparation of donor coordination events such as consultative group meetings. |
