The CPS differs from previous cooperation plans in that it includes amplified analytical and advisory activities, apart from centralizing most of the loans for Colombia in a Development Policy Loan (DPL) intended to support the government’s national development strategy. The program for advisory services will be tailored to the demands of the country to respond rapidly to any emerging opportunity.
"We have a very good dialogue with the Colombian Government", said La Via. "This country shows great economic progress and we recognize the efforts being made by President Alvaro Uribe and his team of collaborators. We understand Colombia’s need for better social developments and have offered more flexible advisory services and technical assistance, along with long term financial credits at very competitive interest rates."
In addition to meeting with President Uribe, La Via met with Oscar Ivan Zuluaga, Minister of Treasury; Juan Pablo Zarate, Viceminister of Finance; Jose Dario Uribe, General Manager, Banco de la República; Juan Ricardo Ortega, Secretary of Finance of Bogota; Mr. Fernando Paez, Deputy Manager and Director of Transmilenio S.A; Alberto Gutierrez, President Titularizadora Colombiana; Andres Escobar, Deputy Director of National Planning; Martha Lucia Villegas, ICETEX Director; as well as executives from the financial sector and prominent economists. He maintained an open dialogue with all of them in order to better understand the realities of the country and the challenges it faces in terms of economic and social development. He expressed the World Bank’s interest in promoting better and more equitable commerce by facilitating development solutions, specially designed for medium income countries such as Colombia.
