November 2006
Sponsor: Office of the Vice President (WBIVP)

WBI’s Knowledge for Development Program is pleased to announce an update for the 2006 Knowledge Assessment Methodology (www.worldbank.org/wbi/kam). The update includes a number of new variables, as well as four new countries: Azerbaijan, Macedonia FYR, Mali, and Trinidad and Tobago.

The KAM uses more then 80 structural and qualitative variables for a group of 132 countries to generate a range of comparative data tables, charts and diagrams for a simple visual representation of different aspects of countries’ Knowledge Economy readiness. Various modes can display and compare countries’ overall Knowledge Index and Knowledge Economy Index and demonstrate performance scores on the four main Knowledge Economy pillars: Economic Incentive and Institutional Regime, Education, Innovation, and Information & Communications Technology (ICT).
