Public Information Center

New partnership scheme is born: the Public Information Center in Ecuador's capital

quitopic(Quito, 7th September, 2006).- The new Public Information Center in Quito, Ecuador, has opened its doors as of Thursday September 7 th. being this an operational opening. The first visitors included Ecuador’s country Manager Eduardo Somensatto, the country office staff, and some development researchers.

Quito’s PIC is based on partnership schemes, aimed at integrating efforts for ensuring the cost and quality effective offer of public information services in the long term. It has started with the agreement with the Municipality as a means of  providing a unique location: the Centro Cultural Metropolitano, the most dynamic cultural spot of Ecuador’s capital right in the heart of the historic distric and next to the Presidential palace. The PIC is established at the International Organizations Room, which is part of Centro Cultural's public library. The initiative also includes the alliance with the United Nation information services, formerly established at the building.

The new room is located at Centro Cultural Metropolitano, historic building strategically located which has become the most dynamic cultural spot of Ecuador’s capital. Its public library receives about 3 thousand visitors per month.

Comprising both reading and multimedia areas, the room is bright and ample, able to accommodate about 50 visitors. A first shelve includes all reports and main reference publications. There is also a section for analytical and research publications, as well as the operational shelve. The Project Cycle poster is central at this area. Ecuador WB projects are also contributing with their publications in a separate section. Close to the entrance, there is the section of brochures, magazines, newsletters, and other free distribution items. Five computers will also facilitate access to the major online information resources.

As a first stage, the major task after the set up is the monitoring of customer’s needs. We are aimed at improving the services by the official launching, to take place in a couple of weeks.
The establishing of this room is the result of many committed and hard working people, so this is the opportunity to recognize their efforts and support, particularly to Ida Mori, Victoria Minoian, Eduardo Somensatto, Vinicio Valdivieso, and the whole Ecuador’s office team. Also, many thanks to the EXT and LAC PIC colleagues, always sharing experiences and enthusiasm.

Welcome to PIC-Quito!!
