WASHINGTON, April 26, 2007 - The World Bank released the following statement this evening in response to the actions taken by the Ecuadorian authorities with regard to the institution.
“The World Bank yesterday received a letter from President Rafael Correa dated April 20, 2007 requesting the removal of our Country Manager. Currently, World Bank senior management is looking into the implications of this request. We remain committed to maintaining an open dialogue with the Ecuadorian authorities and to continuing the fight against poverty.”
