Ecuador is a country in northwestern South America which also includes the Galapagos Islands. The country is among the most biodiversity-rich countries in the world. The capital, Quito, and Guayaquil, the largest city, concentrate both political and economic control of the country. Ecuador’s population of 13 million is growing at a rate of 1.4 percent per year, and one of every four Ecuadorians is young. NEW The Development Marketplace selected 19 development initiatives for youth The Development Marketplace, a contest for social projects, awarded prizes to the best proposals. A total of 19 prizewinning projects were chosen based on the contest’s theme “Youth Building Ecuador.” The event came to a close with the awards ceremony on Friday, June 8, at the Instituto Geográfico Militar’s Cultural Center in Quito. Click here.

Ecuador's capital has a new Public Information Center Based on partnership schemes and aimed at integrating public information efforts, a new PIC is functioning in Quito.
