Welcome Message

Greetings, and thank you for visiting the Latin American and Caribbean Energy website. We are entering into a crucial period for energy development in Latin America. We have worked for the past thirty years following the rapid urbanization and productivity gains as they have translated into increased demand for energy, both to answer personal needs and to alleviate poverty while sustaining the growing economies. Now, as the region most advanced in power sector reform of all the developing world, Latin America continues to be at the forefront of the sector’s potential, and to face new challenges of environmental sustainability, of service quality and of meeting the needs of all the population; This site is meant to provide you with a better understanding of the issues we still face in promoting efficient and environmentally sustainable energy services. Through it we also hope to share our enthusiasm and to inspire an increased interest in energy issues.

Energy in Latin America plays a key role in urban and private sector development, in issues of transport, water and sanitation and carbon emissions as well as in the environment. As we look for synergies, our teams are multi-disciplinary, with experts from these different but related areas. Thus, as you browse ahead in our energy website, bear in mind these other topic development pages.

Best wishes,

Susan Goldmark, Sector Manager for Private Sector Development.
