Capital Markets Development

The Finance Group’s activities in this area focus on issues such as structured finance, sub-sovereign finance, mutual funds and pension funds, development of equity and debt markets, policies necessary for sound functioning of capital market intermediaries and their regulation/supervision, and regional issues such as capital market development in small economies.

In particular, the Finance Group is drafting an operational manual for policymakers with specific recommendations to foster the development of various sub-sectors of domestic capital markets (pension funds, repos, private equity, securitization instruments for SMEs, housing and infrastructure financing).

The Finance Group has also provided analytical input for the Bank’s assistance in the design of catastrophe insurance schemes in several member countries. Furthermore, the Group is actively contributing to the ongoing debate on pension system reforms across the Region.
