Guidelines for Inclusion of Individuals with Disability in HIV/AIDS Outreach Efforts

This paper is intended to provide guidelines for the inclusion of individuals with pre-existing disabilities in HIV/AIDS outreach efforts. It is based on a synthesis of materials collected in the course of the Global Survey on HIV/AIDS and Disability by the World Bank and Yale University. The Independent Living Movement in Latin-America: By Rosangela Berman Bieler

The translation of the terminology "Independent Living (IL)" into Spanish, as it is being used by the Disability Movement, is "Vida Independiente" (or in Brazilian Portuguese - Vida Independente”), which means an "independent life". In general, this concept is not yet clearly understood by families, communities, service-providers or policy-makers, either in the Global South or, more specifically, within the Latin culture.
