HIV/AIDS in Latin America and the Caribbean
In the last twenty years, around 600,000 people in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region have died from AIDS. Today, two million people live with HIV/AIDS and approximately 567 contract the HIV virus every day.    >> Topic brief
Feature: HIV/AIDS and disability
People with disability have often been remained excluded in the prevention of the HIV as well as the AIDS care efforts because it is presumed that they are not sexually active and therefore they are in a minor or no risk at all to the infection. The chance that men and women with disabilities would be victims of violence or rapes is higher, in spite of the fact that the chance they could obtain police intervention, legal protection or preservatives is lower.
