Uruguay Poverty Assessment Update-2003 After a decade of continuous growth, the Uruguayan economy experienced a recession in the years 1998-2001 and registered further contraction in 2002, following the unraveling of the Argentinean crisis in late 2001. This report describes the impact of the recession on the poor and how it contributed to increase the vulnerability and inequality in the country, despite appropriate measures taken by the government.
Argentina Poverty Assessment- 2003 An in-depth, multi-dimensional analysis of poverty to examine the impact of government policies and spending on the poor, and to use the empirical findings to identify options and priorities for poverty reduction in the future.
Accounting for Poverty in Infrastructure Reform: Learning from Latin America's Experience Throughout Latin America, 125 million people lack access to safe water, 200 million are without adequate sanitation, and an estimated 70 million lack access to modern energy supplies. This new study explains ways in which infrastructure reform may impinge on the welfare of poor households, identifies policy instruments for attenuating the impact of infrastructure reform on the poor, and provides guidance on how to define the appropriate social strategy for any particular country or infrastructure sector.
