Samuel Freije-Rodriguez, a Senior Economist with the Poverty and Gender Group, is a Spanish/Venezuelan national and holds a Ph.D. in Labor Economics from Cornell University, M.Sc. in Economics from Queen Mary College, University of London and a B.A. from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas. Prior to joining the Bank Samuel was an Associate Professor in Universidad de las Americas in Mexico, and until recently he directed the Centro de Investigacion de Politicas Publicas at the same institution. Before that, he was an Associate Professor at IESA in Caracas, Venezuela.  He has been teaching, consulting to public sector institutions and doing research in the areas of development, poverty and inequality, labor markets, social policies and applied econometrics, areas in which he has published extensively.
