Social Inclusion

People are the ends and the means of development. Now people fare is the measure of development effectiveness, and their ownership of development initiatives is critical to their success. People, institutions, and societies are diverse.

In order to ensure that development projects and policies are feasible and effective, we need to understand the social, cultural and institutional contexts in which they are carried out. These are the thematic areas that the Social Development team for Latin America and the Caribbean works on to achieve this goal:

Afro-LatinsTo remove the institutional and social arriers confronting Afro-Descendant populations.
Empowering Rural Poor trough CDD
Gender
To analyze and fight inequity based on gender roles and relations.
Indigenous Peoples
To promote the participation and inclusion of the region's indigenous peoples in a sustainable development process.
Society, Culture and Tourism
To support living and material culture as a key element of social and economic development.
Youth
Social inclusion of minority youths, promotion of citizenship rights and participation of young people in public debates.
