Latin American and Caribbean (LCR) region is highly urbanized, with on average 75% of its 500 million inhabitants living in cities, mainly large cities, thus leading to the concentration of solid waste and corresponding waste management problems. The more important and prosperous cities in LCR have begun to improve disposal practice and have introduced sanitary landfills, however the issue of treating and reusing LFG emissions has not been addressed yet. In contrast to this limited beneficial use of LFG in LCR, the experience worldwide is that there are more than 1200 LFG plants for energy purposes. Thus there is a significant opportunity to increase LFG recovery and utilization at landfills in LCR, provided that the appropriate market conditions exist. »More Workshop: Over Expectations of Emission Reductions from Landfill Gas Recovery Projects,April 2nd, 2008
LFG Technical Workshop
The international workshop titled “Landfill Gas Capture: Project Design vs. Actual Performance and the Future for CDM Projects” hosted by the Landfill Gas Initiative of the Latin America and the Caribbean Region (LCR) was successfully concluded at its headquarters in Washington, D.C. on April 19, 2007. The workshop was the first of the kind to deliver detailed data on LFG capture and to compare the actual performances with the models used to design the project. »More Workshop Report: Design vs. Actual Performance and the Future for CDM Projects (August, 2007, PDF, 431KB) This Initiative is sponsored by CIDA, the Canadian International Development Agency - www.acdi-cida.gc.ca Terms and Conditions |
