Inaguration of a new recreational area

The 50 preschoolers of Jardín de Niños La Isla have now a new recreational area, which aims to stimulate their integral development in a safe, creative and clean environment.

The new recreation area of the Kindergarten was built on a modern concept that allows the development of gross motor skills on a ground covered with a special material that cushions falls and prevents the infliction of wounds.

An alternative for working mothers

Children enrolled in the preschool center are sons and daughters of tenants of the Market La Isla, located in the center of the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa. The center was created to provide affordable admission to education and care of the children in the market as well as time for working mothers who have a stall in it. The facilities of the Kindergarten are located opposite the market, ensuring peace for mothers as they have direct and close access to their children while they are working.

To ensure safety, health and discipline in the playground, it was agreed the following rules:

  1. It is required the presence of an adult whenever children use the playground.
  2. It is prohibited the entry of people with glass objects, metal and rock.
  3. Not allowed alcohol.
  4. The games can only be used by children under 12 years old.
  5. No more than 15 people are allowed in the playground at the same time.
  6. It is prohibited the misuse of games.
  7. It is prohibited the entry of other games other than those who already own the area.
  8. Do not smoke.

The new recreational area of Jardín de Niños La Isla was built under an alliance agreed between FICOHSA Foundation and the World Bank on 14 June 2011 through the Civil Society Fund. FICOHSA Foundation is one of four civil society organizations winning a donation of $ 5 thousand each. The Fund seeks to strengthen the voice of the poorest and most vulnerable sectors of society in order to enhance development as a more equitable and inclusive process.
