September 15, 2004 - World Bank President James Wolfensohn expressed his deepest sympathy to the governments and the people of the Caribbean region affected by Hurricane Ivan for the tragic loss of lives and damage to property. Wolfensohn said the Bank was actively engaged with the authorities of each of the affected countries in providing both financial and technical support to their emergency operations. Also, a contingency fund of up to US$10mn for emergency assistance may be activated for the subregion. More
