Dear all,

The South Asia Finance and Private Sector unit, SAR AIDS and IFC Against AIDS, are hosting a seminar on World AIDS Day 2007 on the private sector engagement in HIV/AIDS on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 9am at J1-050. The seminar will feature the role of private sector partners in implementing innovative approaches to effectively combat HIV/AIDS. The seminar highlights three aspects of private sector engagement in HIV/AIDS:

  • Capitalizing on established private sector business models to fund HIV/AIDS initiatives: Tamsin Smith, President of Product (RED) will speak on how (RED)'s model has employed a portion of profits from leading companies with products branded (RED) to fight AIDS in Africa.
  • Drawing on the innate expertise of the private sector to fight HIV/AIDS: Michael Cover, Senior Vice President at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, one of the world’s leading international communications firms, will focus on the powerful impact of public/private partnerships and educating at-risk populations, including youth, on HIV/AIDS through media and marketing.
  • Engaging with private sector on corporate social responsibility for HIV/AIDS: Sai Paranjpye, acclaimed Indian filmmaker and recipient of one of India's highest civilian awards, the Padma Bhushan, will speak on the power of the moving image for social awareness campaigns on HIV/AIDS and how the private sector can contribute to social awareness-oriented films.

Juan Jose Daboub, Managing Director, will give welcome remarks for the session, and Praful Patel, VP-South Asia Region, and Dorothy Berry, VP-Human Resources, IFC, will co-host the seminar. We urge you to attend this session since it promises to be an exciting one and the ideas discussed here could also have important implications for engaging with the private sector in general.
