Status and Progress of Women in the Middle East and North Africa (2009)

gender 2009The report on the “Status and Progress of Women in the Middle East and North Africa” examines progress on gender indicators in the MENA region in the following areas: economic participation, access to education, access to health care, public participation ad representation, and women’s legal rights. The compendium consists of a regional gender overview, followed by country gender briefs for Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Syria, West Bank and Gaza, and Yemen, as well as country gender profiles for all MENA countries. In addition, the compendium provides information on research carried out in the area of gender and transport as there is an increased interest in the role of infrastructure in women’s economic empowerment, as well as research on attitudes regarding gender roles based on the World Values Survey.
