As part of its partnership with the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), the World Bank Public Information Center organized jointly with ACCI’s Training Center a colloquium on the World Bank and the PIC (Public Information Center).
The objective of the colloquium was to promote knowledge about the World Bank, its mandate, its organization and its student information service. The majority of these students being sales engineers, they had little if any the opportunity to address the subject of the World Bank in their curricula.
The colloquium attracted a wide audience: about one hundred persons, mostly young sales engineers aged 20 to 25 and their professors in the Center. The meeting was followed by a rich Q&A session. The questions have mainly centered on the organization of the World Bank and its mode of operation. Special interest was given to the cooperation framework of the World Bank with Algeria and its ongoing or past activities.
The meeting was also the opportunity to introduce the services of the Public Information Center and the various publications of the World Bank. The public had the opportunity also to visit a stand where annual and regional publications on Algeria were on display.
Â
The colloquium ended with an ad hoc meeting with the professors in the presence of the Director of the Center Mustapha Chaib with a view to collect their information-related needs.
In order to meet the wish of seeing this linkage become stronger and sustainable, a work program will be developed in the coming weeks. It will in particular (i) enrich the library resources of the training center, keep the public informed of the new publications received at the PCI, (ii) organize panel-forums on subjects which address needs expressed by the teaching staff and students, following visits paid by the World Bank experts.
