What is the Public Information Center PIC?

The Public Development Information Center is not a conventional library that simply contains books and publications to serve researchers mainly. Besides being a tool for disseminating knowledge and sharing information on development activities, it is an active channel of partnership with community members. Through this channel they will be able to engage in debates and provide insights in lively interactions through seminars, workshops and roundtables. They can become full partners and active players in the development of their own societies. This involvement will finally create a sense of ownership towards development programs

CairoPIC at the Institute of National Planning:

The Institute of National Planning is a center of excellence and one of the main contributors to development in Egypt. The Documentation Center of the Institute has been a depository library for World Bank publications for long years, through which cooperation between the two institutions has been very fruitful. The Center is also one of the few World Bank entities around the world equipped with a special service for visually disabled users. The service is provided free of charge. A trained staff is available to help visually impaired users to retrieve information.

AlexandriaPIC at Bibliotheca Alexandrina:

The Library of Alexandria is not just a library. It stood there once as the most famous platform for sharing knowledge throughout the history of humanity, and today, after its revival, it remains symbol of global cooperation in the field of knowledge.

Building on the success that Bibliotheca Alexandrina was able to achieve in creating strong liaisons with civil society, and on the World Bank’s commitment in sharing experience and information, we plan to make this Center a new active and successful channel for development partnership.
