Health in MENA

Français |  عربي

A region rich both in natural and cultural resources, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) has achieved significant improvements in health status. Over the past three decades, infant and child mortality rates have fallen, health service delivery has improved, and overall life expectancy has risen. The number of children dying before the age of five has declined in all countries. People are living 13 years longer, on average, with some of the countries in the region demonstrating life expectancy rates comparable to European countries. Yet, given these accomplishments, MENA countries still face a number of obstacles in achieving health services for their populations that are efficient, equitable, and sustainable.
