Since 2005, the World Bank supports Morocco’s National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), a program launched by King Mohammed VI in May 2005 to alleviate poverty, vulnerability and social exclusion in the country.
INDH consists of multi-sectoral public investments and income generating activities targeting roughly 667 of Morocco’s poorest neighborhoods and rural communes.
The program is based on a community driven approach (CDD), by which local communities are enabled to express their needs and priorities in terms of basic infrastructure, social services, and economic opportunities.
In addition to the US$100 million loan supporting program implementation during 2007-2010, the World Bank contributes to INDH through its worldwide experience in CDD interventions and a range of capacity building activities.
The Bank's support to INDH is embodied in a close collaboration with the INDH Steering Committee, the INDH Coordination Unit within the Ministry of Interior, and the National Observatory of Human Development, and it is in line with the Country Assistance Strategy for Morocco.
