| January 13, 2010: As a result of a coordinated effort between the World Bank Public Information Center (PIC) based at the National Information Center (NIC), a visit was organized for about 40 students of the Economic and Statistics Department at Sana’a University. The visit was also attended by the head of the Economy Department, Dr. Dawood Othman, who played an important role in making this possible.
The visitors were received by the World Bank Public Information Assistant and staff members of the (NIC). The visiting Program included two presentations and an information session followed by exploration of some of the PIC sections including the reading area, the internet station and the Distance learning facility.
“We thank the World Bank for organizing and coordinating this successful tour which is a very solid proof of the Bank’s transparency. We are so glad to be here, and I am sure the students have learnt a lot and would definitely visit the PIC frequently”, commented Dr. Othman. | |

| Mujahed Al Mussaabi, Public Information Assistant, made a 15-minute presentation on the World Bank PICs; mandate, services and the different sources of information. He also highlighted Bank projects in Yemen and sectors supported by the World Bank. This was with the view of having regular information sessions for different audiences to inform them on Bank work in Yemen, as well to help readers and researchers to get information on development through the different tools accessed at the PIC.
Among the visitors was Mr. Faisal Darem, the Public Relation Manager of the NIC, who gave an introduction to the National Information Center activities and structure and spoke about the variety of information available. He also referred to the joint collaboration between the Bank and NIC and encouraged attendants to visit both facilities. Visitors were given the opportunity to surf the website and explore the various information and reports and were handed Bank brochures and publications. At the end of the tour, students were very appreciative of this opportunity. This was reflected in what Mr. Abduslamed, a third year student said “Today’s tour was extremely helpful. I have learnt about the World Bank more than I would do in months”. Participants Group photo at the PIC Center.
