Only 10% of rural households in Sri Lanka have access to tap water.

March 18, 2007 - Only 10% of rural households in Sri Lanka have access to tap water.** In villages and small towns, about 30% of the population have private access to safe water sources. Contamination of water sources and lack of a regular and reliable water quality testing system have meant that traditional water sources in rural Sri Lanka have become increasingly unsafe.

Results on the Ground

About 46,000 households in rural Sri Lanka now have access to safe water supply. The World Bank is helping improve water and sanitation which has contributed towards better health indicators.
