Highway & Railway Development in India and China

India and China have both been experiencing high growth rates over the last two decades. Till a decade ago, the road networks in both the countries were severely deficient as compared to those in other developing countries, and the railways too desired substantial improvement.  However, in the past 10 years both the countries have made good progress in these sectors.  This note compares the experience of both the countries in terms of the development and performance of the highways and railways sector over a period of 10 years from 1992 to 2002.
