History

The Netherlands is a founding member of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). It is also a member of the International Development Association (IDA) which it joined in June 1961, founding member of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in 1956, the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) in 1988 and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in 1966. 

The 24-member Executive Board is made up of five Executive Directors who are appointed by the five largest shareholders (in alphabetical order, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States) and 19 others who are elected by groups of countries to represent their interests.

The Netherlands shares its Board representation with nine other countries: Armenie Macedonia, former Yugoslavi Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgari, Moldova, Croatia, Cyprus, Romania, Georgia and Ukraine. The position of Executive Director for this group is currently held by Mr. Herman Wijffels. This official is supported in his functions by an Alternate Executive Director, who is currently Mr. Doltu Claudiu, a Romanian national.
