Norwegian Trust Funds in the World Bank

Norway holds a number of Trust Funds in the World Bank.

Trust funds are financial and administrative arrangements with an external donor that leads to grant funding of high-priority development needs, such as technical assistance, advisory services, debt relief, postconflict transition, and cofinancing. The Norwegian Education Trust Fund

In 1998, the Norwegian government set up the Norwegian Education Trust Fund (NETF) to assist countries in Sub-Saharan Africa in their efforts to achieve universal primary education. To learn more about the NETF, click here.

The Norwegian Trust Fund for Private Sector and Infrastructure

The Norwegian Government and the World Bank established a new "umbrella" trust fund for Private Sector Development and Infrastructure in 2002, to consolidate Norwegian funding of many existing trust funds on energy, water, urban development, infrastructure, and private sector development within the Bank Group. The Trust Fund for Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Development

In 1999, the Norwegian Government set up the The Trust Fund for Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Development (TFESSD). In 2002, Finland joined the fund, which now provides grant resources to mainstream environmental, social and poverty reducing dimensions of sustainable development into overall Bank work. 

A Reference Group of Norwegian and Finnish experts advises the Governments of Norway and Finland on the progress, direction and usefulness of the TFESSD, and assists in promoting a substantial dialogue between the World Bank and the Norwegian and Finnish ESSD communities.
