Significant business opportunities exist with each of the World Bank Group's agencies, (World Bank, IFC  and MIGA). The World Bank Group works in every sector, in almost every developing country and is currently involved in more than 1,500 development projects. Each year Bank financed projects generate between 20 - 30,000 contracts with a total value of about $20 billion.

A good place to start is the Business Opportunities website of the World Bank. If you already know what kind of commecial opportunites you want to pursue, please click in 'Providers of Goods & Services', 'Financing the Investment' or 'Opportunities & Guarantees' at the left. The Private Sector Liaison Officer also can help you to do the right connections within Bank's Group (see 'Private Sector Outreach', at your left.

Some Quick Links:

  • Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA): MIGA offers political risk insurance (guarantees) to investors and lenders in order to help developing countries attract and retain private investement.
  • ICSID: The ICSID puts here a list of the Bilateral Investment Treaties that Portuguese Government maintains with other countries.
  • International Finance Corporation (IFC):  IFC finances private sector projects in the developing world, helps private companies in the developing countries mobilize financing in international financial markets and provides advice and technical assistance to business and governments.
  • Development Gateway Market (dgMarket): dgMarket provides a global online marketplace, publishing tender notices for project funded by several developent banks, including the World Bank.
  • UN Development Business (UNDB): UNDB provides information on business opportunities generated through the World Bank, regional development banks and other development agencies.
  • DACON Registration for Consultants: DACON offers a registration database for consulting firms.
  • Corporate Procurement: This Vendor Kiosk makes the Bank's e-procurement tools available to its vendors and provides answers to business related questions such as, What does the World Bank buy? What are the bidding opportunities? etc.
