The World Bank Geneva office hosted a presentation of Unfinished Business: The WTO’s Doha Agenda on Tuesday November 8th, 2011. With the Doha Development Agenda in limbo, this book, edited by William Martin and Aaditya Mattoo of the World Bank, comes at a crucial juncture. The recent G20 Communiqué on the DDA marks a significant departure from past endorsements and exhortations. Negotiators now have an opportunity to critically assess what is on the table, develop a more relevant agenda and more effective ways of achieving reforms. As ministers embark on this work, this new volume addresses the key questions they face and provides an empirical basis for informed choices. In addition to a presentation of the books findings by William Martin, Shishir Priyadarshi, Director of the WTO’s Development Division and Olivier Cadot, Professor at the Université de Lausanne, provided insightful comments. These comments were followed by a lively Q&A session. In attendance were members of Permanent Missions to the WTO and UN, international organizations, civil society and the media.  |
