The International Comparison Program (ICP) in the Asia and the Pacific region (Asia-ICP) is organized as part of the global ICP exercise and serves both as a source of reliable and policy-relevant data, and as a comprehensive and coherent regional capacity building initiative.  The immediate objective is to organize the collection of GDP expenditure weights and price data for the computation of PPPs and, at the same time, with a view to meeting the region’s urgent demand for reliable and timely data, to support the monitoring of progress towards meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The ultimate objectives are: Integration of the ICP with national data collection systems within an overall strategy of national statistical capacity building; and Bringing poverty-specific PPPs into the mainstream of ICP (Poverty PPPs provide the cornerstone of the MDGs.)
The ICP-Asia and Pacific Regional Office is housed in the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, the Philippines. The program is implemented in 23 countries (21 Developing Member Countries of the ADB and 2 non-member countries.)  A second group covering six Pacific Islands is involved in a reduced ICP survey covering a limited number of household consumption items, under the support and coordination of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).  For more information, visit the Asian Development Bank: http://www.adb.org/statistics/icp/icp.asp  View the List of Participating Countries  Contact for the ICP-Asia and Pacific: Vaskar Saha - email: vsaha@adb.org             Contact for the reduced-scale Pacific Island program: Paul McCarthy - email: Paul.Mccarthy@abs.gov.au |
