The general objectives of the Module on Population Statistics are to identify the specific country needs with regard to the design and implementation of the national census projects, and the use of census data.
Â
Five countries selected the topic Population Statistics for receiving technical consultation.
Each of them chose three priorities to be advised on.
Technical assistance for the Population module focused on census preparations and quality assurance for Zambia (Census in 2010), Malawi (2008), and Kenya (2009). This comprised a.o. mapping (GIS), questionnaire design, training, testing, and dissemination.
For Kenya a complete Census Quality Assurance Framework (CQAF) was drafted and disseminated to all 18 participating countries.
In The Seychelles staff has been trained to become able to apply specific software needed for census mapping, data integration and linking data to maps, database creation and maintenance. GIS methodologies have been reviewed, recommendations given and implemented. Furthermore a Population Forecasting Approach was developed and staff trained in the production of census based population projections.Â
