Role of the Secretariat

The Secretariat of the Development Committee carries out the diverse day-to-day work of the Committee on the growing number of development issues, as well as the coordination of international efforts of financing development.

Executive Secretary

At its head is the Executive Secretary, who is selected by and responsible to the Committee. Mahmoud Mohieldin, Corporate Secretary and President's Special Envoy is the Acting Executive Secretary of the Committee.

Responsibilites of the Executive Secretary*

The position of Executive Secretary, as outlined in the parallel resolutions of 1974 and the administrative arrangements of 1979, has two major objectives:

  1. To assist the Chairman of the Committee, Managing Director of the Fund and President of the World Bank in ensuring the effectiveness of the Development Committee.

  2. To plan, organize and report on the work of the Development Committee.
