While the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) raises most of its funds on the world's financial markets, IDA is funded largely by contributions from the governments of its richer member countries. Additional funds come from IBRD's income and from borrowers' repayments of earlier IDA credits.
Donors get together every three years to replenish IDA funds. Donor contributions account for about 60% of the SDR 27.3 billion (USD 41.6 billion)Â in the IDA15 Replenishment, which finances projects over the three-year period ending June 30, 2011.
A total of 45 countries made pledges to IDA15, the highest number of donors in IDA's history. Six countries -- China, Cyprus, Egypt, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are becoming new IDA donors. China and Egypt were once IDA borrowers and have joined Korea and Turkey as current donors and prior recipients of IDA's assistance.
