IDA at Work Impact

  • Total IDA funding on water projects amounted to about $1.3 billion across 107 projects between 2000 and 2009
  • Low income, IDA countries account for 80 percent of the most water-poor countries
  • Access to safe water in IDA countries increased from 65 percent in 1990 to 78 percent in 2006
  • Since 1999, annual IDA lending for the water supply and sanitation sector has averaged US$577 million

The International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank’s fund for the world’s poorest countries, has a unique role to play by working across sectors, institutions and countries involved in water resources management.
