IDA at Work: Agriculture

Agriculture is critical to reducing global poverty and stimulating overall growth. It is still the single most important productive sector in most low-income countries, often in terms of share of GDP and almost always in terms of the number of people it employs. IDA has developed considerable expertise in dealing with the emerging challenges in this sector stemming from both new opportunities - such as growing markets for tropical high value produce - and new threats - such as avian flu.
