The office of the Executive Director (EDS13) represents a group of countries on the Board of Directors of IBRD, IDA, IFC and MIGA. This group of countries, the "Constituency", comprises Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Cote d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Niger, Republic of Congo, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal and Togo.

Together with 23 other colleagues representing the World Bank Group’s member countries, the Executive Director serves on behalf and in the interest of his respective Constituency. Responsibilities consist of participating in Board meetings to define institutional policies and strategies, as well as approving programs and projects, including IBRD loan and guarantee proposals, IDA credits, grants and guarantee proposals made by the President.

Along with the other members of the office, the Executive Director also attends meetings of the Committee on Development Effectiveness (CODE), the Audit Committee, the Budget Committee, the Committee on Governance and Executive Directors' Administrative Matters (COGAM), the Personnel Committee, and the Steering Committee.

The Executive Director engages in direct consultations and negotiations with other Executive Officers to generate support for the World Bank's efforts to reduce poverty and to harmonize their positions so as to present a consensus on development efforts.

He liaises with his Constituency's Governors (usually the Ministries of Finance) to inform them on news and events in the World Bank Group, and to receive their advice and opinions on how to best further and protect their interests.

The Executive Director is responsible for presenting to the Board of Governors during the Annual Meetings an audit of accounts, an administrative budget, and an annual report on the Bank's operations and policies as well as other matters.

In addition, the current Executive Director has developed a strategic framework to identify and pursue opportunities to reposition the office to play a stronger and more proactive role in providing board oversight, ideas, and recommendations into the World Bank’s decision-making process.

Agapito Mendes Dias is currently the Executive Director, and Mohamed Sikieh Kayad is the Alternate Executive Director
