About the Office of the Executive Director EDS14

Africa Group I Constituency
Botswana, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, The Gambia,  Kenya, Lesotho,  Liberia , Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe

The Executive Directors are responsible for the general operation of the World Bank Group. They guide the activities of the Bank and evaluate and decide on loans and credit proposals; they are therefore both officials of the Bank and representatives of their constituency countries. The role of our office is to represent the interest of our constituency members at the Board of the World Bank Group and to liaise with the respective Governors on issues relevant to the entire constituency or to a particular member of the constituency.

In addition to the Executive Director and the Alternate Executive Director, the Office is composed of Advisors and Senior Advisors who assist the Executive Director in reviewing documents, and provide advice, on projects for discussion and approval at the Board of Executive Directors. They are supported by a senior executive assistant and program assistants.

Our constituency is comprised of a number of countries, which include several small and poor countries. For this reason, our office plays a significant role in the Bank’s dialogue with our constituency countries and engages in direct consultations with other Executive Directors to gain support for the Bank’s efforts in fighting poverty and promote development in our constituency countries. Our office therefore ensures that our constituency voice is heard in the Bank’s decision-making process and that adequate resources are allocated to our constituency to fight poverty.
