Why Foundation Partnerships are Important

Meeting the world’s development needs is a complex and challenging task that no one institution can effectively address alone.  Partnerships are essential  to mobilize the world’s technical and financial resources in support of development solutions. Therefore, the Bank sees partnerships with foundations as important in order to:
  • gain knowledge and experience from foundations in good practice, research and information related to their specific country knowledge and sector expertise;
  • share Bank information, knowledge, and resources with foundations in order to foster complementarity in Bank/foundation work;
  • enable operational partnerships with foundations around projects or special initiatives that take advantage of the strengths and comparative advantages of each partner;
  • deepen Bank/foundation development work through consultation on corporate priorities such as country and regional assistance strategies, poverty reduction strategy papers, the Millennium Development Goals, and the Comprehensive Development Framework;
  • consult on initiatives that are foundation based, yet complementary to Bank activities, such as research, pilots, evaluations, strategies, seminars and conferences; and
  • enlarge Bank and foundation capacity to convene and support broad consortia of donors and specialists in regional or global initiatives through intellectual and financial support.
