Guiding Partnership Principles

The strongest partnerships evolve from mutual respect, paring of complementary strengths, and collaborative planning and decision making. Consequently, the Bank/Foundations Working Group envisions that:

Partnerships will evolve through work on mutually shared goals and priorities in such areas as:

  • community and social development
  • environmental management
  • improvements in governance
  • health
  • education
  • private sector development

Partnership building will be based on a process that is:

  • flexible to take into account the  variety of opportunities that present themselves;
  • collaborative so that all partners are a part of assessing needs, generating ideas, and planning activities; and
  • draws on each partner’s comparative advantage, whether it is convening power, specialized expertise, access to information or financial support.

Partnerships that link foundation resources to the Bank’s lending will:

  • target those resources to non-Bank recipients
  • be applied at country or community levels
