Foundation Partnerships

The Bank's corporate strategy on partnerships actively acknowledges the potential and importance of collaborative work with private and public foundations.  Over the past decade, foundations such as Gates, Ford, MacArthur, Rockefeller, Soros, Bernard van Leer, and many others, have formed partnerships with the Bank that have greatly increased the effectiveness of development programs and projects.  Foundations have helped to support global, regional and local development projects in such areas as health, education, civic engagement, gender, environment and conflict resolution.

However, establishing partnerships with foundations is not easy.  Foundations have developed their programs around very precise areas and they rely on their own process for selecting and awarding grants.  Furthermore, foundations find it difficult to understand how the World Bank operates and why we would seek their funding.

The purpose of this site is to help Bank and Foundation staff learn more about each other in order to build successful partnerships.

Features include:

  • Bank Organization, Strategies and Resources - to assist foundations in learning about the Bank's organizational structure, key objectives, projects being planned or underway, and upcoming consultations (external foundation website only).
  • Foundations Information Center - data on funding by regions and sectors and information on different types of foundations to help World Bank staff find out which foundations match their areas of work.
  • News and Events - a dedicated space for learning about upcoming foundation meetings and events
