European Observatory on Health Systems & Policies (OBS)

imageThe OBS is a partnership comprised of WHO-Europe, the European Investment Bank, the World Bank, Norway, Spain, Greece, Belgium, Slovenia, Veneto, Finland and Sweden, the London School of Economics (LSE), the London School of Hygiene and tropical medicine (LSHTM) and the Open Society Institute. Its overall objective is to support and promote evidence-based health policy making in the Europe and Central Asia region through activities and products in three areas: a) Country monitoring and information. This involves systematic and critical monitoring of national health systems captured in Health systems In Transition reports (HITs) covering 56 countries; b) Analysis through thematic and comparative analytical studies, case studies, policy briefs and several other publications; and c) Engaging with policy makers through a number of platforms including seminars and policy dialogue national and international workshops, Hits launches and conferences.  As member of the steering committee and through regular coordination with the OBS management team, the Bank has the opportunity to shape the strategy of the Observatory,e specially on a) its geographical focus b) priorities for thematic work (i.e., health insurance, service delivery issues, non-communicable diseases, aging and quality improvement).  OBS is funded by the Development Grant Facility.
