Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI)


imageGAVI is a partnership comprised of key players in the immunization and development arena. GAVI's success depends on the UN agencies, the Bank, governments, bilateral agencies, R&D institutions, private industry, public-private partnerships for vaccine development, foundations (particularly the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) and others. GAVI is structured to build on the comparative advantages of each partner.  GAVI looks to the Bank to take the lead in economic and financing strategies. At the request of the GAVI Board, the Bank has led the GAVI Financing Task Force through which the Bank launched a national financial sustainability capacity building exercise until it was sunsetted in 2006.  At the request of the Board, the Bank has also developed a framework and process to improve the consistency and quality of projects (investment cases) proposed for GAVI/VF decisions.  Through its seat on the GAVI Board, the Bank has been able to ensure that GAVI support to countries is based on a country driven process
