imageMMV is a product development public-private partnership.  Its highly focused goal is to build and manage an R&D portfolio leading to the registration of new antimalarial drugs that are safe, highly effective, cover a number of malaria indications, and are very affordable.  Although the first new drug has not yet been registered, the current portfolio is already well ahead of projections in MMV's business plan and its management has therefore startd a dialogue with other global palyers including the WHO and the Global Fund on the complex issue of drug delivery, recognizing clearly that the ultimate goal is making drugs accessible and affordable to the poorest populatin.  MMV has six projects in clincial development which could produce new antimalarial drugs before 2010.  If MMV performs at the industry average in clinical development, at least three new drugs would be available to treat malaria before 2010.  MMV is funded in part by the Development Grant Facility.
