Energy

Energy issues are at the core of the World Bank Group's activities for promoting growth and reducing poverty. Use of modern energy (electricity, natural gas, petroleum products and coal) is strongly correlated with economic growth and with human development-in health, education, and life expectancy.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)

A crucial ingredient of development is to bring the opportunities of the information age to emerging economies, and to assist them in becoming part of the global economy by promoting access to information and communication technologies.

Oil, Gas, Mining, and Chemicals

Oil, gas, mining, and chemicals can make a significant contribution to sustainable development, especially if environmental, social, and corporate governance issues are managed.

Transport

Transport is a key part of development. The mission of the transport group is to assist clients to reduce poverty by improving the efficiency and equity of transport policy and interventions. The transport group works with the public and private sector and communities to enhance the capacity of transport institutions to provide sustainable infrastructure and services.

Urban Development

The World Bank with its partners is committed to promoting sustainable cities and towns that fulfill the promise of development for their inhabitants -- in particular, by improving the lives of the poor and promoting equity -- while contributing to the progress of the country as a whole.

Water Supply & Sanitation

Because water is so essential to life, the World Bank Group strives to help its member countries ensure that everyone has access to efficient, responsive and sustainable water and sanitation services. The challenge is enormous: over one billion people still lack access to safe water, and over two billion lack safe sanitation.
