Flagship Regional Infrastructure Studies The Bank is working with Bank Group partners to develop flagship regional infrastructure studies: | East Asia and the Pacific | | | The Bank, JBIC, and ADB produced a joint flagship study, "Connecting East Asia: A New Framework for Infrastructure”, which clarifies policy and operational strategy issues for the next few years in the EAP region. The study highlights the important role of well-executed infrastructure development in reducing poverty, and develops realistic and practical suggestions on how to improve infrastructure services for the poor through a year-long process of dialogue, seminars and workshops. See press release. | | Latin America and the Caribbean | | | This report, "Infrastructure in Latin America and the Caribbean: Recent Developments and Key Challenges" (772KB, PDF), is part of a joint initiative of the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank to examine infrastructure issues in Latin America and the Caribbean. The report says “lackluster” performance in infrastructure development is having severe consequences on the region’s ability to grow, create jobs, and alleviate poverty. It also highlights the need to improve public perceptions about private sector spending on infrastructure. See press release, and audio-interview. | | Europe and Central Asia | | | This Regional Flagship Publication will analyze the experience of infrastructure reform – primarily in power, water and rail industries - in ECA countries during the transition period. The study will provide an assessment of reforms that have been undertaken, and outline reform challenges towards industry commercialization. It will elaborate a role for the private sector going forward, and a framework to support both private participation and commercialization within a framework of state ownership. It will also propose a role for the IFIs supporting infrastructure development in the region. |

Specially, the study covers the electricity, natural gas, telecommunications, water, and transport sectors.
