The 1996 Annual Report outlined key activities carried out by the Bank, including work on Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC), Programs of Targeted Intervention (PTI) to help the poorest, IDA funding, private sector development. In addition, the Bank worked on special programs in the West Bank and Gaza, Bosnia and Herzegovina, helped establish a joint Africa-World partnership, and increased work with non-governmental organizations. President Wolfensohn said that the Bank would become "stronger, more agile and more effective."
