Visit to Brazil, Peru, and St. Kitts and Nevis

World Bank President James D. Wolfensohn will visit Brazil, Peru and the Caribbean island nation of St. Kitts and Nevis from November 18-27. During his four-day stay in Brazil, Wolfensohn will visit Belem in the Amazon region, and Recife in the northeast, as well as Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia. He will meet with Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso and President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, as well as several state Governors and mayors, private sector and non-governmental organizations representatives. He will also visit poverty reduction projects supported by the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation, and address the opening session of the World Economic Forums Latin America Business Summit in Rio de Janeiro. In Peru, where the World Bank President will spend four days, he will meet with President Alejandro Toledo and members of his cabinet, indigenous peoples representatives, members of Afro-Peruvian organizations, business people, participants in the National Agreement (Acuerdo Nacional) process, and representatives of non-governmental organizations. He will also visit two rural communities, and meet with members of Perus Truth Commission. Wolfensohn will arrive in St. Kitts November 26, where he will meet with heads of state of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), as well as senior officials from the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and the Caribbean Development Bank. He will also visit two high schools that have benefited from upgrades and training with World Bank support.
