For millions who live with physical, sensory, intellectual or mental health disabilities, the additional burden of isolation and a lack of understanding by others may form insurmountable barriers to productive and rewarding lives. Support from health systems and public policy reforms can help break the cycle of poverty that often accompanies disability.
